THIS IS AN OLD POST AND IS KEPT LIVE FOR ARCHIVING PURPOSES ONLY

OK first of let me disclaim this post by saying I am totally against black hat SEO and the contents of this post is purely my opinion based on my understanding of how businesses in general function.

So – the title says Google needs black hat SEO. Explain…

I admit I am one of those people who go onto blogs and criticise Google for not penalising sites for using black hat SEO techniques and particularly for not policing their own rules – but, the more I think about it the more I realise that Google needs to leave some black seo alone (as in not penalise them individually) in order to further develop their algorythms.

Think of it this way – it the Google police shut down every black hat site it found then their web spam team would have nothing to test new algorythms on – effectively they would lose their R&D department!

So as I see it Google will continue to allow a fair whack of small offenders and then will address the problem in new algorythms. And that means we will always be fighting against the black hats.

Ho hum – I suppose it is the way of the world.

I don't think so. The reason why Google launched Google penguin and Google panda is because Google wants to lessen spammers in the internet. Black Hat SEO is known as an effective tool in SEO because it uses spamming methods but know it is not that kind of powerful anymore.

    not really sure about this
it's like saying that police needs crime in order to test their methods? 😛

Even I am against black hat techniques but I think you are right that Google should accept this challenge and should allow black hat techniques to make their algorithms strong. Through this, the talented developers will emerge from their developing team.

Yes in a way it is like saying that but I'd prefer to phrase it: The best police officers are often the ones who have had the most experience in dealing with crime/criminals – if they had not had that experience then they would not be as good. Also Lewis Hamilton didn't get to where he is now without annoying the general public on the roads in his little learner Nissan Micra! (no offence to Nissan but whenever I seem to be stuck behind a slow driver it is very often a Micra).

In an ideal world we'd all love no crime and no spam but while we live in this world I for one would like the most experienced teams defending our cause so we have to allow them a little grace to gain that experience.
